Everything But the Kitchen Sink!

Piping and plumbing fittings , valves , and plumbing fixtures in addition to lengths of pipe or tubing, pipe fittings such as valves, elbows, tees, and unions.

Are all used in plumbing systems.

Pipe and fittings are held in place with pipe hangers and strapping. Plumbing fixtures are exchangeable devices that use water and can be connected to a building's plumbing system. They are considered to be "fixtures", in that they are semi-permanent parts of buildings, not usually owned or maintained separately.

Plumbing fixtures are seen by and designed for the end-users. Some examples of fixtures include water closets (also known as toilets ), urinals , bidets , showers , bathtubs , utility and kitchen sinks , drinking fountains , ice makers , humidifiers, air washers , fountains , and eye wash stations. Hot water dispensers are usually attached to taps in the kitchen sink. It’s an ideal place for them because then you can use the steaming hot water to wash your dishes. The near-boiling temperature of the water gushing out of the tap makes it easier to clean dirty dishes.

For it’s a fact that hot water helps breakdown grease more quickly than cold water. In addition to this, the high temperature will kill off bacteria and germs clinging to your dishes.

So it makes it equivalent to a sterilizer. Plus, sterilizing your utensils with hot water is safer than using harsh chemicals to do the same thing.

Before you can run a supply line to your refrigerator, you'll need to locate the two closest water supplies. It may be a pipe that runs below the floor or a kitchen sink that sits 10 feet away, separated by counter space. Next, draw out on a piece of paper what your path will be for each line, including all the necessary fittings and valves you'll need for the run. This will make it easier to see what parts you'll need to buy in order to save yourself from driving back and forth to the hardware store.

Hidden Underground Plumbing Pipe Systems

Underground plumbing pipe systems that run from our homes to wastewater treatment systems are modern-world conveniences that most of us take for granted. We rely on our plumbing on a daily basis. We expect these systems to carry waste materials from our toilets, bathtubs, kitchen sinks, and ever plumbing fixture, to a treatment facility. Once there, the water will be filtered both naturally and chemically to a level safe for the environment, wildlife, pets, and people. We likewise take for granted that when we open a spigot, clean potable water comes running out of it for us to drink or bath in.

Beware Sewer Gas Explosion or and Sewer Airlessness Can Suffocate You

Methane gas which collects in underground drains can be an explosion hazard, and on rare occasions asphyxiate you..

PTFE Type Plumbers Tape Danger

PTFE tape rolls to illustrate PTFE tape danger if wrong type is used for gas pipes. Also, until a while back, it never occurred to me that handling PTFE type plumbers tape and then smoking (I roll my own) could be risky. If you use plumber's Teflon tape on gas pipe fittings, the tape will degrade over time and gas vapors will escape from the fitting. Plumber's Teflon is white in color and thinner than yellow gas-rated Teflon tape. Leaking gas pipes and fittings are dangerous and can cause an explosion.

As I was intending to use the stuff to remedy a leaky thread on a plastic pipe joint under my kitchen sink at the weekend this was a very timely warning, I get the rubber gloves out now when I handle it.

If a person have a leaky tap, a blocked kitchen sink drain, or some other typical plumbing related problem, you will be most probably dealing with a plumber. On the other hand, plumbing contractors are generally commonly called only whenever there is a serious plumbing related challenge or brand new plumbing is to be installed in an addition, a brand new home, or during a significant home improvement undertaking.

The Kitchen Sink Won't Drain! Now What?

The pipe is my kitchen sink drain pipe and it goes out to my carport and back under the house. It will require ripping off all siding to fix it right. water I do plan on doing this maybe after christmas. For now its patched and i just put the siding up with a few nails so i can easily access it again when i want to fix it correctly.

If you’ve ever tried to fall asleep with a dripping tap in the next room or wrestled with a kitchen sink that didn’t know when to stop, you know how annoying this common problem can be. A dripping tap also drives your water bill higher. A single tap can send hundreds of gallons of water per year down your drains a drop at a time.

Everything is leaking under this kitchen sink. Not sure for how long but think its been long term by the looks of it. It seems to be leaking from that actual taps and the drain aswell. The drain is leaking through the pipe not a a joint. It's leaking at the point it goes straight down about 2" from the top. I'm thinking i should take it all out right down to where it ties into the main drain.

With most drains installed out of sight, not many homeowners clean them until there is a blockage situation in the kitchen sink or toilet. Unfortunately, clogs in your drains do more than waste a few minutes of your time as you engage the plunger. They lead to drainage pipe leaks as well.

A white kitchen renovation example picture. The first thing to do is to unplug the appliance, find the shut-off valve that is related to the refrigerator’s water line (it may be located behind the fridge, under the kitchen sink or in the basement right underneath the fridge). Then, you’ll have to inspect plastic pipes to determine if there’re any frozen water clogs in them. If you notice any, you’ll just need to leave your refrigerator to defrost for a few hours and test the fridge. If the ice clog was the ultimate culprit of the leak, the fridge should be alright after it’s all melted and gone. Finally, check the drain pan for any damages just in case.

If your kitchen sink has a garbage disposal, then you will need to check it for clogs. They can easily get blocked up with bits of food. To determine the source of the clog, switch off the disposer first. If you stick anything down the drain, then you will also want to switch off the power. You can use a flashlight to look down the drain and try to determine the nature of the blockage: where it is and what is causing it. This will determine your tools and approach.

Cold weather can also cause sink drainage problems through clogged or frozen drain pipes. Shampoo and other toiletry items poured down bathroom sinks, as well as grease and other waste poured down kitchen sinks, have the potential to clog sink drains even during warm weather. However, during cold weather, these liquids can solidify, increasing the probability of clogs.
